Incorporating a new program into your already busy schedule as a coach can be challenging and we appreciate all that you continue to do to bring forward the best athletic experience possible. Nutrition can often be overlooked by a young athlete however as a coach, you understand the significance of a high-quality nutrition plan and the role it plays in athletic success. Please consider these 5 simple steps when preparing to start the program.
Key 1: Take Time to Review
Take time to review the program components so you are prepared when it comes time to present it to your parents and athletes. Just like on the field, they will be looking to you for guidance.
Key 2: Keep an Eye on Budgeting
Consider your allotted budget and the number of meals your school plans to offer their athletes.
Example: Our school was allotted $1,000.00 for the purchase of beef. We will have 5 beef meals. This means each meal will average approximately $200.00. You will need to be aware of this as you reach out to parents, booster clubs, and/or any other partners that might help you in carrying out the program. Please refer to the quick guide for parents in team meal planning. If they choose to cater, please remember that allotted dollars can only be used for the purchase of beef. All itemized receipts must be filed and turned in with a final expense report at the end of the season.
Key 3: Quantify IMPACT
Impact will drive this program so it is important that you complete all requested evaluation tools.
Helpful Hint: Have your parent and athlete surveys printed and with you the night of your parent meeting. These can easily be incorporated as part of the regular paper work and collected immediately following the meeting. Have pens/pencils available.
Key 4: Get Support
Identify volunteers that will help you guide the program throughout the year. This might even be a student assistant. A student program assistant can help ensure that you are completing necessary paperwork as well as photos and team examples that you would like to submit at the state and national level.
Please notify your state beef council office with the contact information for your assistance. Once that has been submitted, your assistant will be able to submit content to the program’s website manager.
Key 5: Stay on Top of Deadlines
Please be aware of all program deadlines and get your paperwork in on time. This will help in maintaining the integrity of the program and your school.
